Jeff Kuhner on American Decadence
"If we want to show the world that we are worthy of American leadership, we have to show to them that we are truly a decent, moral and cultural society. Because if we don't, we will lose."
Recognized as one of the great minds in political talks today, Jeffery T. Kuhner is now the host of "The Kuhner Show", a talk radio show on Freedom WTNT which broadcasts in the Washington D.C. metro area. He is also a regular contributor to the commentary pages of The Washington Times, where he writes a weekly column. In a speech (full transcript available here) in March 2008, Kuhner spoke about how Hollywood is fueling the terrorism and anti-American fire around the world.
Kuhner compares the modern America to Rome of the Ancient Roman Empire, which has reached the apex of its power, but rapidly going in decline. What is the reason? Certainly wars and tyrannies imposed on the world have something to do with it, but most importantly, it is the so-called culture that it spreads around the global that people are beginning to most despise.

Today Hollywood movies and entertainment are America’s biggest export to the world, and cannot be escaped from no matter where one goes. They often promote pornographic degradation of women, same-sex promiscuity, abortion-on-demand, self-indulged drug use and “doing your own thing”. The social engineers have manipulated Hollywood to program entire generations of youths with their TV programming. However, as Kuhner puts it best, “most of the world, it’s not liberal or conservative. It is traditionalists. People believe that ultimately we are here to serve a larger purpose, that we are created by a god, whatever your religion may be. And that we are here to serve God's law, and to do his will on this earth. People are traditional in their values. They believe in God, they believe in family, they believe in living for something greater than themselves. So when they see these images, they recoil from it. It disgusts them; it revolts them.”
As a Canadian citizen in the process of becoming a US citizen, Kuhner understands what made America great, and as he puts it, “it has been the greatest civilization in the world”. He and his family understood it when they first fled tyranny from Eastern Europe to the new world. But for America to remain a great civilization, Americans must not forget all the key principles and values of goodness, “we have to say clearly and unequivocally, killing 50 million unborn children, innocent children, is wrong; We have to say that pornography degrades our women; we have to say that family is breaking down and it must stop. We have to take care of the weakest and the most vulnerable among us especially the elderly, not with this euthanasia, sanctioning murder of older people because somehow we don't want them. In other words we have to stand up for the culture of life.” Or America risks repeating the fate of the ancient Roman Empire, as historian Edward Gibbon pointed out: “more than its armies, more than its repression and subjugation of people militarily and politically, what made Rome hated was its cultural arrogance, and most importantly its decadence.”
