Do you like hot pot? This time we went to a Mongolian hot pot restaurant located in Richmond Landsdowne Center, called the Little Sheep Hot Pot. Little Sheep is a famous restaurant chain originally from China, and has over 350 restaurants all over the world. Usually I don't like hot pot other than when it is really cold. But last weekend all my friends wanted to have hot pot, so I followed along.

We arrived at about 7pm and they were pretty busy, we had to wait for about 10 minutes before getting a table. Luckily it wasn't too long a wait. Once we sat down we ordered the Supreme Beef Slices, Supreme Lamb Shoulder Slices, cold tofu, fish tofu, some vegetables, and of course the Half and Half Spicy and Clear Soup base pot. Having a half and half pot allows us to cook different type of food in different flavors. For example, meat is more suitable spicy and vegetables are more suitable in clear soup.

Maybe because they were busy, the usually good service is a bit chaotic this time. We waited for a long time for our tea, and the waitress took a long time to come get our orders. After we placed our orders, some of the things were sold out and we had to change it. Good thing is they were very polite, so it was still pleasant. And it is understandbale because they were obviously very busy with many customers.

About the food, I have to say that Little Sheep's food is of the highest quality I have tried compared to other Vancouver's hot pot restaurants I have tried. Maybe because it is NOT "all you can eat". I especially like the premium beef slices, which are cut very thin and seem to melt away in your mouth. However the spicy soup base doesn't taste as authentic as those I had in China, and is not very spicy. Afterall maybe people in North America are not all used to real spiciness. Another good thing about it not being "all you can eat", is that their selling point is not quantity, but quality. Little Sheep seems to provide better quality, and therefore the price is a little bit higher. I don't have a big stomach anyways, so "all you can eat" often to me is a waste. I would rather eat less but better food.

Overall, I enjoyed Little Sheep very much. If they can improve their service, so they can handle busy times even better, then they would be excellent. Although the price is a bit higher, it is only fair because the food is better. I will definately go back again.
